The Exciting New Gift Mode on Etsy!

Buying and selling on Etsy become more exciting.

This popular marketplace just launched a brand new feature called Gift Mode and I think it’s going to be a huge improvement for both, sellers and buyers.

Let me explain why I’m so excited about it!

Do you know how it can be super hard to find the perfect gift for someone?

Like for their birthday, anniversary, or the holidays?

You want to get them something special and personal, but figuring out what they’d really love isn’t easy.

Well, that’s where Etsy’s Gift Mode comes in to save the shopping day!

How Does Gift Mode Work?

So when you go onto Etsy and click into Gift Mode, it’s going to ask you a few simple questions.

Things like:

  • What’s the occasion you need a gift for? Birthday, wedding, baby shower, etc?
  • Who is the gift for? Is it for a man, woman, kid?
  • What kinds of interests or hobbies does that person have? Like do they love knitting, video games, and gardening?

After you answer those basic questions, Gift Mode will scan through all the millions of items on Etsy and suggest really personalized gift ideas based on your answers!

It takes all the guesswork and stress out of gift shopping.

Instead of browsing hoping something jumps out at you, you get quality suggestions picked out just for the person and occasion you need.

Why Am I So Excited?

Okay, now let me tell you why I’m like a kid at Christmas over this new Gift Mode.

You see, I’m just getting started opening my own little handmade shop on Etsy.

I make really cute digital products like printable wall art, greeting cards, stickers and more.

When I first heard about Gift Mode, I’ll admit I was a bit nervous.

What if my products never get suggested and I miss out on all those potential sales?

But then I learned a brilliant strategy for optimizing my listings.

By using special attributes and keywords in my product descriptions, I can increase my chances of showing up in those personalized Gift Mode searches!

For example, on Etsy, you can tag your listings with attributes like:

  • Colors (red, blue, yellow etc)
  • Occasion (birthday, wedding, anniversary, etc)
  • Holiday (Christmas, Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, etc)
  • Subject (love, friendship, nature, etc)

So let’s say I have a digital download of a pretty pink heart design.

If I tag that listing with attributes like “Valentine’s Day” for the holiday, “Love” for the subject, and “Anniversary” for the occasion – my product is way more likely to get suggested to someone using Gift Mode to find an anniversary gift for their partner!

It’s honestly been a game changer for me.

Since optimizing all my listings with occasion, holiday, and subject attributes, I’ve already had sales increase on products that never sold before.

The Downside? A Bit More Work

Now making sure every single listing is fully optimized for gifting has been kind of tedious, I won’t lie.

It took me a whole afternoon just clicking through attribute after attribute on each product.

But you know what? If doing that boosts my sales and gets my products in front of tons of new potential customers, it’s 100% worth the effort!

From what Etsy is saying, having all those gift attributes completed makes a huge difference in whose items actually get pulled for Gift Mode suggestions.

So even though it’s a little tedious upfront, I’m sure glad I put in the work to be prepared!

What’s Next? Give it a Try!

So those are my thoughts, but I’d love to hear what you think too!

Do you sell on Etsy or shop there often? Have you used Gift Mode yet as a buyer?

Whether this is your first time hearing about it or you’ve already been using it, I’m really curious to know your take.

Does optimizing your listings for gifting seem like a smart move and something worth the effort? Or does this whole thing feel like it might be more hassle than it’s worth?

I’m honestly still figuring it all out myself, so I’d love any advice or different perspectives you’ve got.

If you haven’t tried out Gift Mode yet, I’d really encourage you to give it a whirl, whether you’re an Etsy seller or just shopping for a gift.

Etsy put a ton of work into developing this new mode and promoting it as a big new feature.

So I don’t think it’s going anywhere anytime soon!
